No. There is no sign-up. Everything runs in your browser.

Yes. AI Vault and the cleaning tools are free during early access, without limits or paywalls. If optional paid services appear later (for example hosted sync for teams), the local features remain usable.

No. cleanchatgpt.com is independent; product names are only used to describe compatibility.

No. Imports, search, scanning and exports happen in your browser. The app page is served with a Content-Security-Policy that only allows connections to cleanchatgpt.com, and no analytics or trackers are loaded.

By default the vault lives only in that tab’s memory, so closing or reloading it erases everything. Turn on encrypted storage in Settings if you want to keep it on that device.

Your vault is compressed and encrypted with AES-256-GCM using a key derived from your passphrase (PBKDF2-SHA-256, 600 000 iterations) and stored in your browser’s IndexedDB. Only ciphertext is stored.

The encrypted copy cannot be recovered — there is no backdoor and no reset. Keep a backup file and your passphrase somewhere safe.

No analytics, advertising or tracking. The app stores your language and theme preferences locally. Our hosting provider may use strictly necessary security mechanisms.

Imported text is rendered without HTML, remote images are not loaded and the page cannot contact other servers, which limits what hostile content can do. Still, only import files you obtained from the providers yourself.

Select all the parts at once in the import screen. AI Vault reads conversations from the first part and finds attachments in the others.

Exports do not always include files: Claude lists uploaded files by name only, and some ChatGPT exports omit generated images. AI Vault tells you exactly what is missing instead of pretending.

Some exports or older formats only contain the final list of messages. Then AI Vault shows the exported order and does not invent branches. ChatGPT and current Claude exports include real branches.

Yes. Re-importing adds new conversations and messages, updates provider metadata and never overwrites your titles, tags, notes or knowledge. Duplicates are recognised by their original ids.

Files are streamed and attachments are not loaded into memory, so exports of several gigabytes work on a desktop browser. Very large conversation files need enough memory for the text itself.

No. Suggestions come from transparent wording rules (“we decided…”, “the fix was…”, “instead of…”), each with the matched words and the source quote. Nothing becomes knowledge until you accept it. You can also paste a prompt into your own assistant and import its answer for review.

Proposed: not yet verified. Confirmed: someone confirmed it, with date. Obsolete: superseded by another item or no longer valid. Disputed: there is a contradiction to resolve. Every change is kept in the item’s history.

Belongs to (an item is part of a project), resolves (a solution or decision fixes a problem), supersedes (a newer item replaces an older one), relies on (an item is supported by a source, decision or note) and contradicts.

Markdown, JSON with a provenance manifest, and an Obsidian vault as a ZIP with consistent links between conversations and knowledge notes.

No. Pseudonymization replaces identifiers with aliases that can be reversed with the separate key; context can still identify people. Anonymization would make that impossible, which no automatic tool can guarantee.

A separate file that maps aliases like [PERSON_001] back to the real values. It is never included in the package and is only downloaded if you explicitly ask for it. Keep it private.

Markdown and JSON can be checked line by line before sharing. We will not offer PDF until it can be generated with the same guarantees.

An optional program you run on your computer that lets MCP-compatible assistants search your knowledge, read sources (pseudonymized by default) and propose memories. Each assistant has its own token and role, and can never confirm knowledge.

Not to the local server: those web products only connect to remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in, which is not offered yet. Desktop and developer clients such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code can connect locally.

Roles, restricted projects, proposals and the audit log work locally today. Sharing one vault between people and devices needs a collaboration server, which cleanchatgpt.com does not offer; meanwhile, share safe exports or move the vault with an encrypted backup.
